Algebra Bernays University enters the new academic year with enhanced capacities in the field of communication sciences. Following the upgrade of the university’s master’s program in Public Relations, which provides students with contemporary content in strategic communication, reputation management, digital communication, artificial intelligence, and leadership, a new step in the development of the field is represented by the appointment of Assistant Professor Dr. Stjepan Lacković as head of the University Department of Communication Sciences.

Lacković comes to the new position with interdisciplinary academic and professional experience that connects communication and information sciences, political science, and European studies. He graduated in philosophy and information sciences in 2006 from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zagreb, and then obtained a master’s degree in political science from Central European University in Budapest in 2008. He continued his academic advancement at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, where he earned a master’s degree in European studies in 2011. He obtained his PhD in political science in 2021 from the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Zagreb.

Since 2011, he has been employed at the Baltazar Zaprešić Polytechnic, where he has served as the head of the professional master’s program in Communication Management since November 2020. In his teaching work, he teaches courses in the field of information and communication sciences, linking academic work with experience in managing study programs.

His appointment is part of a broader process of developing and enhancing the academic and professional capacities of the University in the field of communication sciences. In addition to the upgraded master’s program in Public Relations, the University is further expanding its educational vertical in this area by introducing a new postgraduate specialist program in Strategic Communication, for which enrollment is currently ongoing.

The new program is intended for professionals who wish to transition from operational to strategic communication management, develop advanced competencies, or take on leading communication and advisory roles. The program connects strategic communication and communication management with reputation management and crisis communication, digital media, brand management, international communication, and the application of artificial intelligence in the communication industry. Special emphasis is placed on practical work, case studies, and contemporary communication challenges in the business and social environment.

By taking on the role of head of the University Department of Communication Sciences, Lacković will participate in the further development of the field, which the University is simultaneously strengthening through a new management structure, the enhancement of existing study programs, and the development of new programs at the postgraduate level.
