The Mayor of Split Tomislav Šuta presented on Friday the Park & Ride projects at Lovrinac and Park & Walk at Turska kula, with a total value of 80.7 million euros, for which the Government has secured 64.8 million euros in non-repayable funds aimed at alleviating traffic in the city center.

The projects will be implemented by the city company Split parking in partnership with the City of Split and Promet, and in addition to the construction of two facilities, the reconstruction of Lovrinačka Street, Puta groblja, and Puta Glavičina, new cycling routes, and the connection of parking with public transport and public bicycles are planned.

– This only shows that the City of Split is moving towards utilizing European non-repayable funds, with the possibility of minimal credit indebtedness, as our goal is solely to take advantage of all opportunities provided to us through European non-repayable funds – said Šuta.

At Lovrinac, 723 parking spaces for passenger vehicles are planned, and at Turska kula, 594, totaling 1317 new spaces. There are also plans for 16 bus spaces, 33 taxi spaces, charging stations for electric vehicles, car-sharing spaces, and the procurement of new public bicycles.

Šuta announced that feasibility studies and necessary documentation should soon be completed, and public procurement should be initiated in mid-September. The projects will be implemented under the ‘design and build’ model.

At Turska kula, connections with bus transport, public bicycles, and a future railway stop in the area of Trg Hrvatske bratske zajednice are planned. Šuta emphasized that in cooperation with HŽ Infrastruktura, a location permit for the railway station has been obtained, and the main project is currently being developed.

– The construction of the railway station, the realization of Trg Hrvatske bratske zajednice, and the spatial planning documentation currently in progress will solve a major problem that exists in the City of Split, which is parking and congestion – he said.

Turska kula is located on the route of the future St. Duje Bridge, so the project should enable the acceptance of increased vehicle influx after its construction.

The director of Split Parking Davor Matošić stated that this city company currently manages just under 9000 parking spaces, and the two new projects will increase capacity by about 15 percent.

– Split Parking will be the project holder, and the partners are the City of Split and Promet Split – said Matošić, adding that the implementation of an integrated system of parking, public transport, and public bicycles is planned.

At Lovrinac, Promet will redesign the lines to enable transfers at the Park & Ride location, and a new cycling route to the city center is also planned. As part of the system, the introduction of a digital ‘Split Mobility Pass’, that is, a single card for parking and public transport, linked to the existing ITS system and info panels at the city entrances is also planned.

Šuta announced the continuation of investments in parking infrastructure and stated that the goal during his term is to secure around 6000 new parking spaces through garage and parking lot projects.
