The number of employees in the industry fell by 5.4 percent in March 2026

The total number of employed persons in the industry in March this year decreased by 0.1 percent compared to February, and by 5.4 percent compared to March last year, according to data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS).

According to the National Classification of Activities, in March, compared to the previous month, the number of employees in the manufacturing industry, which has the largest share of almost 92 percent of the total number of employees in the industry, fell by 0.2 percent.

In mining and quarrying, which has a share of slightly over two percent of the total number of employees in the industry, the number of employees in March remained unchanged compared to the previous month, as did the supply of electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning, which has a share of 6.1 percent of the total number of employees in the industry.

According to DZS data, on an annual basis, the number of employees in the manufacturing industry decreased by 6.1 percent. Within the manufacturing industry, the largest decrease in the number of employees was recorded in the clothing production sector, down by 29.6 percent, and in the production of other transport equipment, down by 25.3 percent.

Statistics show the highest annual growth in the number of employees within the manufacturing industry in the production of refined petroleum products, up by 29.8 percent.

In March 2026 compared to March 2025, the number of employees in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning increased by 2.3 percent, as did in mining and quarrying.

The number of employees in the industry in the first three months of this year compared to the same period last year fell by 5.3 percent.

Total labor productivity in the industry from January to March 2026 is 5.9 percent higher compared to the same period in 2025.
