The accounting function is crucial for the operation of companies and serves as a bearer of important information that is disseminated not only to internal users but also to numerous other interested parties outside the company. For such information to be considered credible and reliable, a high level of expertise from accountants is expected. In this sense, the role of the certificate is to confirm that professionals possess specific knowledge and skills.

One of the professional institutions in the field of accounting that contributes to the development of the accounting profession is ACCA (Association of Certified Chartered Accountants) – the Association of Chartered Accountants. From 2026, this global institution of professional accountants, which has been in existence for over 120 years, will also become a formal part of the accounting profession in the Republic of Croatia.

Ceremonial Presentation at EFZG

The Faculty of Economics in Zagreb, as the holder of the triple crown of prestigious international accreditations (EQUIS, AACSB, AMBA) and EFMD program accreditation, is now the holder of another accredited study program. Namely, the University Integrated Undergraduate and Graduate Study of Business Economics, specializing in Accounting and Auditing at the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb has become an ACCA accredited program for the period from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2030. ACCA is known as a professional institution that sets high standards of knowledge, professional ethics, and practical experience, and requires all study programs it accredits to meet high criteria.

The Faculty of Economics has been preparing for several years to meet the high demands of ACCA accreditation and has become the only ACCA accredited faculty whose specialization in Accounting and Auditing meets the established requirements of that institution. On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, an official visit by representatives of ACCA was held, during which Pavel Prochazka, Business Relationship Manager of ACCA, and Legor Gradaščević, ACCA Manager for Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia, and Serbia, presented the accreditation to students as well as representatives of the profession, and a ceremonial presentation of the received accreditation was held to the Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Prof. Dr. Sanja Sever Mališ.

This accreditation includes four subjects at the basic level of applied knowledge and skills – diplomas in Accounting and Business (Business and Technology, Management Accounting, Financial Accounting, Corporate and Business Law). Students of the Faculty of Economics in Zagreb will be recognized after completing their studies.

Acquisition of Prestigious Skills

Additionally, students who pass the courses in Cost Accounting and Management Accounting will be exempt from taking the Performance Management course. Those who pass Financial Accounting and International Accounting receive an exemption from the Financial Reporting course. The passed course in Auditing at the Faculty of Economics carries an exemption from the ACCA course in Audit and Assurance.

Furthermore, in addition to three years of experience, to obtain the ACCA Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Business, students of the Faculty of Economics must also pass the ACCA exams in Taxation and Financial Management, as well as complete the Ethics and Professional Skills module, and it is an advantage that students can apply to take the exams even during their studies.

The high demands of ACCA accreditation in collaboration with academic institutions enable students to achieve the appropriate professional competencies required by practice, while employers benefit from obtaining quality human resources. Therefore, the Faculty of Economics at the University of Zagreb is proud to contribute to the development of the accounting profession and the improvement of the quality of professionals who will be able to meet the challenges of practice.
