Croatia Increased Exports by 5.5 Percent and Imports by 4.6 Percent

The value of Croatian goods exports reached 18.5 billion euros in the first nine months of this year, which is 5.5 percent higher than in the same period last year, while imports increased by 4.6 percent to 33.6 billion euros, according to the first data released by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS) on Friday.

At the same time, the foreign trade deficit amounted to 15.1 billion euros, while the coverage of imports by exports was 55 percent.

According to DZS data, goods worth 12.3 billion euros were exported to EU member states in the first nine months of this year, which is 6.2 percent more compared to the same period last year, while exports to non-EU countries increased by 4.1 percent to 6.2 billion euros.

Imports from EU member states, on the other hand, increased by 2.6 percent year-on-year in the first nine months of this year to 26 billion euros, while imports from non-member states amounted to 7.6 billion euros, with a growth of 12.2 percent.

Imports from Germany increased by 18.2 percent in eight months

DZS also published preliminary data on trade for the first eight months of this year.

Total exports amounted to 16.3 billion euros, which is 4.8 percent higher than in the same period last year, while imports increased by 5.1 percent to 30 billion euros. This revised the initial data for August published on October 9, which stated that the value of Croatian goods exports in the first eight months was 16.2 billion euros or 4.6 percent higher, and imports were 29.3 billion euros or 2.9 percent higher year-on-year.

According to the latest data, the foreign trade deficit from January to August 2025 amounted to 13.7 billion euros, and the coverage of imports by exports was 54.3 percent.

Regarding the main foreign trade partners, in the first eight months of this year, Croatian exports to Germany jumped by 11.3 percent to 2.1 billion euros. At the same time, Croatian imports from that largest European economy increased by 18.2 percent to 4.8 billion euros.

The value of Croatian exports to Slovenia in the first eight months of 2025 increased by 13 percent compared to the first eight months of last year, reaching 1.94 billion euros, while the value of Croatian imports from Slovenia increased by 2.9 percent to 3.5 billion euros.

Furthermore, the value of exports from Croatia to Italy rose by 7.3 percent to 1.88 billion euros, while Croatian imports from that country fell by 12 percent to 3.52 billion euros.
