Mars has announced that all ten Mars Snacking factories in Europe now fully utilize renewable energy.

This milestone has been achieved after years of investment in European manufacturing infrastructure, including €1.5 billion invested over the last five years. The company invested in its first European wind farm in 2016, and over the past decade, all candy factories in Europe have transitioned to renewable electricity.

In addition to investments in reducing and converting energy consumption, Mars has purchased Guarantees of Origin certificates for the remaining renewable electricity and biomethane in amounts corresponding to the electricity and natural gas consumption in its direct candy manufacturing operations in Europe.

The factories, located in the Czech Republic, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, and the United Kingdom, produce 900 thousand tons of favorite European brands annually, of which 85 percent is consumed locally in the region.

– At Mars, we believe that the world we want tomorrow is shaped by the way we do business today. Therefore, we measure success not only by financial results but also by the positive impact we have on people, the planet, and society. Sustainability is a justified business move and the core of our strategy, and we are committed to making a significant difference so that today’s actions bring lasting benefits to future generations,” said Marc Carena, Regional President for Mars Wrigley.

This is an important milestone for Mars on the path to net-zero emissions by 2050, and an example of investment in EU manufacturing (€1.5 billion in the last five years and an additional €1 billion by the end of 2026) to support consumer-driven innovation, economic growth, resilience, and modern, energy-efficient infrastructure.
