Tomislav Smolčec has been appointed as the CEO of METRO Croatia, and he will take on the new role on October 1, 2025. As announced by the company, Smolčec began his career at METRO in 2015 as the Sales Director and Associate Member of the Management Board, and since 2020, he has served as the Executive Director of Operations and a member of the Management Board.

He has built his career in Croatia and the region, and his comprehensive understanding of the market, the needs of entrepreneurs, and the specifics of the Croatian HoReCa sector, as considered by METRO, will contribute to further strengthening the company’s position in the Croatian market and achieving its growth strategy.

– It is an exceptional honor for me to take on the responsibility of leading METRO Croatia. Our strength lies in the knowledge, dedication, and energy of the people who make up METRO, and my vision is to continue building a company that is the first choice for our customers and a reliable partner for their growth and success. I believe that together, through innovation, sustainable business practices, and close collaboration with entrepreneurs across Croatia, we will strengthen METRO’s position in the market and continue to create value for our customers, employees, and the community – stated Smolčec.

At the helm of METRO Croatia since the end of 2020 was Imre Horváth, who will assume the position of Senior Vice President for Talent Development and Organization at METRO AG on October 1 of this year.

METRO began operations in Croatia in 2001 with the opening of its first wholesale center in Zagreb’s Jankomir. Today, it operates a total of ten wholesale centers across Croatia. In the Croatian market, as the leading supplier to the HoReCa channel, it holds a 26 percent market share, the company reports.
