Hotel accommodation in Croatia is increasing, camps and private accommodation are experiencing a decline

In Croatia, for tourists in July 2025, there were 421 thousand rooms, apartments, and camping spots commercially available, which is three thousand less than in July 2024, while the number of beds remained the same at 1.1 million, according to data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS).

Of the total commercial accommodation capacities for tourists, the majority, or 60.2 percent in July 2025, were rooms and apartments, and the highest number of beds, 61.2 percent, was in the category of “resorts and similar short-stay facilities,” which includes private accommodation. In this type of commercial accommodation, there were 253 thousand rooms, apartments, and camping spots, with 676 thousand beds.

Compared to data for July 2024, in July 2025, this type of accommodation offered tourists four thousand fewer rooms and apartments, and ten thousand fewer beds.

In the category of commercial facilities ‘hotels and similar accommodation,’ in July 2025, there were 82 thousand rooms and apartments available, or 19.5 percent of total capacities, while their 173 thousand beds accounted for 15.6 percent of the total number.

Compared to July 2024, according to DZS data, in July 2025, there was one thousand more rooms and three thousand more beds in hotels.

Hotel occupancy similar to last July

Comparative data from DZS shows that the average occupancy of hotel rooms and beds in July 2025, despite a slightly higher number, was similar to that in July 2024.

Thus, the average occupancy of hotel rooms in July 2025 was 78.4 percent, and beds 92.6 percent, while in July 2024, it was 78.6 and 91.8 percent.

For other types of commercial accommodation facilities, DZS does not provide data on average occupancy.

Foreign tourists ‘in the negative,’ domestic ‘in the positive’

In all types of commercial accommodation in July 2025, there were 1.3 percent fewer tourists than in July 2024, or 4.4 million, who achieved 25 million overnight stays, or 0.8 percent less. For comparison, in July 2024, there were also fewer tourists in these facilities, by 2 percent compared to July 2023, but overnight stays were 0.5 percent higher.

Foreign tourists also made up the majority in commercial accommodation in July 2025 – 4 million arrived, achieving 23.2 million overnight stays, which is a decline of 1.6 and 1 percent compared to data for July 2024.

There were more domestic tourists than in July 2024, by 1.6 percent or 382 thousand, who also recorded a slight increase in overnight stays of 0.4 percent, to 1.8 million.

Decline in overnight stays in short-stay facilities and camps, increase in hotels

Considering the largest number of accommodation units and beds in commercial short-stay facilities, in July 2025, the highest number of overnight stays was also achieved here, 56.5 percent of the total or 14.1 million, which is 1.8 percent less than in July 2024.

Camps, with 5.9 million overnight stays, are also in the negative compared to July 2024, by 1.2 percent, while hotels, with 4.9 million overnight stays, are in the positive by 2.5 percent.
