In the first seven months, Croatia increased exports by 3.9% and imports by 3.1%

The value of Croatian goods exports reached 14.5 billion euros in the first seven months of this year, which is 3.9% higher than in the same period last year, while imports increased by 3.1% to 26.2 billion euros, according to the first data released by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS) on Monday. The foreign trade deficit amounted to 11.7 billion euros, while the coverage of imports by exports was 55.4%.

According to DZS data, goods worth 9.7 billion euros were exported to EU member states in the first seven months of this year, which is 4.6% more compared to the same period last year, while exports to non-EU countries increased by 2.4% to 4.8 billion euros.

Imports from EU member states increased by 0.3% year-on-year in the first seven months of this year, reaching 20.2 billion euros, while imports from non-member states amounted to nearly six billion euros, representing a growth of 13.9%.

On Monday, DZS also published preliminary data on trade for the first six months of this year. Total exports amounted to 12.3 billion euros, which is 6.5% higher than in the same period last year, while imports increased by 4.2% to 22.4 billion euros. The foreign trade deficit was 10.1 billion euros, and the coverage of imports by exports from January to June this year was 54.9%.

Regarding the main foreign trade partners, in the first half of the year, Croatian exports to Germany jumped by 11.3% to 1.6 billion euros. At the same time, Croatian imports from this largest European economy increased by 4.4% to 3.2 billion euros.

The value of Croatian imports from Italy in the first six months of this year fell by 14.4% compared to the first six months of last year, to 2.6 billion euros, while Croatian exports to Italy jumped by 6.1% to 1.46 billion euros. Furthermore, the value of exports from Croatia to Slovenia increased by 14.3% to 1.48 billion euros, while Croatian imports from that country rose by 6.5% to 2.6 billion euros.
