HŽ Putnički prijevoz has announced that it will launch the first electro-battery train on Croatian railways on Tuesday, which was produced as part of the project ‘Application of Green Technologies in Railway Passenger Transport’, with a total project value of 17.1 million euros.
This project is financed from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NPOO) 2021 – 2026, and as part of it, a battery train and six charging stations have been produced. The train will operate on the route Zagreb – Bjelovar – Zagreb.
The electro-battery train has 157 seating and 158 standing places. It is equipped with three pairs of double-leaf doors, ramps for the entry and exit of persons in wheelchairs, space for bicycles, an audio-visual system for informing passengers, and video surveillance, while passengers on the train are provided with free internet access. It reaches a maximum speed of 160 kilometers per hour on the electrified part of the network and 120 km on the non-electrified part.
By acquiring battery trains, HŽ Putnički prijevoz emphasizes, it enables the organization of railway passenger transport on non-electrified lines in an environmentally friendly manner with modern trains that use electric energy for their operation.
On the first ride of the electro-battery train, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia and Minister of Transport Oleg Butković, the President of the Management Board of HŽ Putnički prijevoz Željko Ukić, and the President of the Management Board of KONČAR – Elektroindustrije Gordan Kolak will be present with their associates.
