The long-standing question of how the generational transition at the helm of Hungary’s OTP Bank will look has been resolved. As announced by OTP, at the initiative of Sándor Csányi, the Board of Directors has made the decision to separate the roles of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of OTP Bank.
After 33 years of holding both positions, Sándor Csányi will become Chairman of the Board of OTP Bank, while his son Péter Csányi, Deputy CEO and Chief Digital Officer of OTP Bank, and a member of the Board, will take over as CEO. Starting in May, András Sebők, a former partner at McKinsey&Company, will assume the role of Head of the Digital Sector at OTP Bank.
According to the statement, the decision was communicated to shareholders at the OTP Bank General Assembly held on April 25. This decision will take effect on May 1. Sándor Csányi will continue to be responsible for the strategic direction of OTP Group as Chairman of the Board, including defining growth and development strategies and overseeing the appointment and dismissal of management members and leaders of subsidiary banks.
Péter Csányi still needs to obtain approval from the Hungarian National Bank for his new position. Péter Csányi joined OTP Bank in 2016 as Director of the Digital Sales and Development Department. From 2019 to 2021, he managed agile development and operations. Since March 2021, he has served as Deputy CEO and Chief Digital Officer of OTP, and since April 2021, he has also been a member of the OTP Group Board. Since 2020, he has been the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of OTP Bank in Croatia.
