The captain of the Croatian national football team and star of Real Madrid, Luka Modrić, after deciding to expand his business horizons by entering the world of craft brewing, will now become one of the minority owners Swansea City, an English second-tier club, reports Fabrizio Romano.
– Modrić will become one of the owners of the Championship club, it has been agreed. This does not affect his professional career as he wants to continue playing for Real Madrid, as announced last month – states the announcement from the Italian journalist.
The percentage that Modrić is purchasing and the cost of the investment are currently unknown. With this acquisition, he is expected to join Andy Coleman, Brett Cravatt, Nigel Morris, and Jason Cohen as co-owners of Swansea, reports The Sun.
The club changed ownership in November after Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan sold their 74.95 percent stake to end their eight years at the helm. American businessman Coleman promised a ‘new era’ when he took over the club. He stated that his dream is to return Swansea, which has been out of the top flight since relegation in 2018, to the Premier League.
– The new partners I have within Swansea City are fully committed to the business every single day to bring this club where it deserves to be. We hope to be able to reach our fans and rebuild their trust and work together on this new beginning – said Coleman.
He also emphasized that they want to build a sustainable football club that eliminates many risks of the ever-changing football economy.
