The Chinese government announced on Friday the introduction of a 34% tariff on all imports from the United States, which is, of course, a direct response to Trump and his day of liberation, i.e., the imposition of tariffs on everyone, across the board.
In addition, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced that it is adding eleven American companies to the list of ‘unreliable entities,’ thereby prohibiting them from doing business in China and collaborating with Chinese companies. Furthermore, strict restrictions have been imposed on the export of rare earth elements, key raw materials for the production of electric vehicles, smart weaponry, and sophisticated electronics, which China almost completely controls globally.
The Chinese Customs Administration also announced that it will suspend the import of chicken from certain American agricultural exporters.
The measures were announced within minutes by three different state bodies, sending a clear message from Beijing: it has no intention of backing down in the trade conflict that the Trump administration reignited earlier this week.
