In non-commercial accommodation in 2024, 466 thousand tourists were reported, achieving 10.5 million overnight stays, which is a decrease of four or 3.2 percent compared to 2023. By counties, the highest or nearly 63 percent of total overnight stays were recorded in Zadar and Primorje-Gorski Kotar, according to DZS data. The DZS (Croatian Bureau of Statistics) obtains data on this accommodation from the eVisitor system, in which the owner of a house or apartment for vacation is obliged to register and deregister guests for themselves and all persons staying in that facility.
Exceptionally, according to regulations, the owner of a house, apartment, or vacation rental for themselves and their immediate family members, who pays the tourist tax in an annual lump sum, registers and deregisters with the tourist board for the first time when paying the lump sum of the tourist tax. Of the total recorded tourists and overnight stays in non-commercial accommodation in 2024, and the DZS does not specify how many such facilities there were, the majority pertains to foreign tourists, who came to these facilities almost three percent less than in 2023, or 364 thousand, and with 6.4 million overnight stays, they are slightly down by 0.5 percent.
On average, they achieved 17.5 overnight stays per arrival, and among foreigners, the highest number was from Slovenia, 109 thousand or 4.2 percent less than in 2023. Tourists from Bosnia and Herzegovina are second, with a share of 12.7 percent in foreign overnight stays, followed by Germany with 10 percent, Serbia with 8.3 percent, Austria with 4.3 percent, the Czech Republic with 3.2 percent, and Hungary with 2.8 percent share. Together, they account for 84.6 percent of total overnight stays of foreign tourists in non-commercial accommodation, while the rest pertains to all other countries.
