Jastrebarsko and Poreč Invest in Smart Projects for a Better Life for Citizens

An increasing number of Croatian cities are implementing digital solutions to enhance the quality of life for citizens, optimize resource management, and increase sustainability. From advanced public lighting systems and digitized city administration to applications for reporting municipal issues and smart traffic management, technology is becoming a crucial tool in the development of urban environments, and Jastrebarsko and Poreč are making rapid progress on the path to even smarter cities.

Smart and Transparent

The city of Jastrebarsko is continuously working to improve the quality of life for its citizens through the implementation of smart solutions. Mayor Zvonimir Novosel emphasizes that Jastrebarsko is among the more advanced Croatian cities in the field of smart city solutions. One of the key projects is the Geoportal, an IT solution that provides citizens and investors with quick and transparent access to data managed by the City.

Additionally, Jastrebarsko has been recognized internationally. The city ranked tenth among European micro cities of the future with the best strategies for attracting foreign direct investment, according to Financial Times. The city is also investing in environmental awareness, including the renovation of street lighting, wastewater treatment, and smart monitoring of the water supply system.

Smart Energy Solutions

The city of Poreč, under the leadership of Mayor Loris Peršurić, is also recognized for its smart solutions. Poreč won an award in the smart energy/environment category with the project ‘My Poreč Without Asbestos’, which co-finances the removal of asbestos roofing from buildings in the city area.

Furthermore, Poreč adopted the city budget for 2025 in 2024, which includes significant investments in infrastructure and the quality of life for citizens.

One of the key projects is the construction of a sewage network in the Dračevac settlement, over 5,000 meters long, expected to be completed by mid-2025. This project will enable connections for about 170 citizens, thereby improving the municipal infrastructure and quality of life for residents.

In addition, Poreč is focused on developing year-round and sustainable tourism that contributes to the local community, and continues to invest in the restoration and arrangement of the city’s cultural-historical and urban complex, encouraging property owners to renovate through subsidies from monument rents.

SMART CITIES CONFERENCE

Both cities are excellent examples of how the implementation of smart solutions can enhance the quality of life for citizens, increase transparency, and attract investments. Their projects in the fields of digitization, environmental awareness, and sustainable development serve as inspiration for other urban areas in Croatia and beyond.
