New Round of ‘People’s Treasury Bonds’, Target Amount 600 Million Euros

A new round of treasury bond subscriptions for citizens will begin on Monday, March 10, with a targeted nominal amount of 600 million euros, an annual yield of 2.6 percent, and investments will be available in bonds with a maturity of 91 days.

The issue date of the treasury bonds is March 20, 2025, the maturity date is June 19 of this year, and the minimum investment amount per investor is one thousand euros.

The subscription deadline for treasury bonds in the first round is March 17 until 11 a.m., while the next day, from 9 to 11 a.m., institutional investors will also be able to subscribe to the “treasury bonds” in the second round, the Ministry of Finance announced.

Treasury bonds are purchased at a discount, so the minimum investment amount for one treasury bond is 993.56 euros. Thus, citizens will receive one thousand euros for one bond at maturity, which means that on one treasury bond maturing in three months, they will earn 6.44 euros.

Reinvestment Option

This time, there will be two subscription channels for citizens – through Fina branches and the digital platform e-treasury.

In the new issue, the reinvestment option is also available, meaning that holders of treasury bonds subscribed in December 2024, maturing on March 20, 2025, will be able to use the nominal amount of the treasury bonds they hold to pay for the new issue, simplifying the renewal of existing investments at maturity without the need for separate payment orders and associated costs, the Ministry stated.

Holders can subscribe to the same, smaller, or larger nominal amount of the new issue compared to the nominal amount of the maturing bonds they hold, as stated in the public call for treasury bond subscriptions. If they subscribe to a smaller or the same nominal amount, the difference up to the discounted subscribed amount of the new issue will be paid on March 20, 2025, to their transaction account specified in SKDD. In the case of subscribing to a new issue in a larger amount than the amount they hold at maturity, the investor is obliged to pay the necessary difference according to the received payment instruction within the prescribed payment deadline.

It is also important that citizens utilize the reinvestment option during the subscription period of the new issue, that is, until March 17 at 11 a.m.

“This means that citizens who wish to reinvest money in treasury bonds do not have to wait for the payment to their transaction account in the bank and then make a new payment, as selecting the ‘reinvestment’ option will automatically handle this on March 20, 2025,” the Ministry notes.

Eighth Issue of Treasury Bonds

In two years, this will be the 11th issue of state securities that citizens will be able to purchase, of which the eighth will be treasury bonds.

The Ministry of Finance reported that in previous placements of state securities that allowed direct participation of citizens, more than 251,000 individual offers from citizens have been realized, totaling 7.4 billion euros.

In this way, more than 3.4 billion euros of savings, or funds that citizens kept passively in their accounts, have been mobilized through previous issues of securities.

With numerous advantages – from the development of the capital market, reducing borrowing costs, financial literacy, etc., 167 million euros in interest has been paid to citizens instead of to foreign financial institutions, the Ministry wrote.
