Porsche eBike Performance Launches Battery Production for E-Bikes in Croatia

German Porsche eBike Performance has begun preparations to open a manufacturing facility in Croatia, where it will produce batteries for electric bicycles. The new production facility will be located in Sveti Nedelja, a few kilometers from the headquarters of the Croatian subsidiary of the company in Zagreb, formerly Greyp Bikes founded by Mate Rimac. Production is expected to start in early 2026.

Porsche eBike Performance was established in 2022 through the integration of Porsche, FAZUA, and Greyp Bikes, focusing on the development of drive systems for e-bikes, and is now preparing for their production. A key reason for choosing Croatia as a manufacturing location was the proximity of development teams, which allows for better collaboration and greater efficiency.

– We see enormous innovation potential in battery technology. Comprehensive quality control and production reliability were key reasons for our decision to largely bring battery production in-house – stated Alexander Wünsch, Chief Financial Officer of Porsche eBike Performance.

The existing industrial facility in Sveti Nedelja will be repurposed and equipped with highly automated, scalable production lines. Adaptation work is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, with production starting in early 2026, coinciding with the launch of Porsche’s first drive system for e-bikes.

Although the batteries will be produced in Croatia, the production of the drive unit, including the motor and transmission, will take place in Germany, where the exact location is still being negotiated. The company plans close integration of development and production to ensure a high level of quality and efficiency.

The company’s business structure today consists of the German Porsche eBike Performance GmbH based in Ottobrunn near Munich and the Croatian Porsche eBike Performance d.o.o. located in Sveti Nedelja, near Zagreb. The Croatian company is majority-owned by the German Porsche eBike Performance, which is in turn majority-owned by Porsche, while minority stakes are held by Mate Rimac, his designer Adriano Mudri, director Krešimir Hlede, and the company itself through Greyp ESOP.

In 2023, the company achieved €8.5 million in revenue and a net loss of €11.2 million in Croatia.
