Elon Musk Unveils New AI Model, Claims It Is Better Than ChatGPT

The artificial intelligence development company xAI, owned by Elon Musk, has introduced its latest AI model Grok 3, which it claims is superior to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Musk stated that Grok is ‘the smartest AI on Earth’, and that xAI has demonstrated better performance than ChatGPT, as well as Google’s Gemini, DeepSeek, and Anthropic’s Claude in performance tests in the fields of science, mathematics, and programming.

In a live broadcast, Musk, who is also the head of SpaceX and Tesla, added that Grok 3 has ‘more than ten times’ the computing power of the previous Grok model.

xAI confirmed that Grok 3 will be available to Premium+ subscribers on X, the social platform also owned by Musk, and that it will be part of a new subscription called SuperGrok, which will include access to the Grok mobile app and website.

Musk’s claim that Grok has better performance than ChatGPT, which has not yet been independently verified, further heightens his rivalry with OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman. Musk has previously filed two lawsuits against OpenAI, claiming that the company has abandoned its founding principles of non-profitability, and last week he offered to buy the company for $97.4 billion, which Altman and the OpenAI board rejected. He helped establish OpenAI but left in 2018 and has increasingly criticized the company and its leadership.

Altman dismissed the offer as a tactic to slow down competitors in the field of artificial intelligence, which is still dominated by large companies based in the United States, although last month’s sudden emergence of DeepSeek as a cheaper Chinese alternative has shaken that perception. However, it seems that this has not yet diminished the appetite for investment in AI companies.

There are reports that OpenAI is negotiating to raise around $40 billion in a new funding round that would elevate its valuation to approximately $300 billion.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that xAI is negotiating to raise around $10 billion, which would mean that the estimated value of the development company would be around $75 billion.
