Frane Glasinović, Promet i prostor: We Invest Significant Resources in the Development of an Advanced GIS Platform

Almost thirteen years ago, two final-year students from the Faculty of Geodesy, specializing in geoinformatics, began working on various projects at their faculty as well as at the Faculty of Transport Sciences. Realizing during their work on these projects that there was a significant lack of quality and affordable geoinformatics solutions in the Croatian market, these name-sakes, Frane Glasinović and Fran Peručić, founded the company Promet i prostor (PiP). As the director and co-founder of the company, Frane Glasinović, tells us, there were companies that dealt with GIS, but their solutions were expensive, complex, and often inaccessible to the general public, and most people at that time associated the term GIS exclusively with Google Maps or perceived it as an extremely complex system that required significant financial investments.

– We knew that it could and should be different. Therefore, we developed a GIS platform based on open-source tools: a solution that is simple, accessible, and tailored to a wide range of users – says Glasinović, adding that trends in geoinformatics have changed significantly in recent years and that GIS applications have become a central place for data visualization because many people want to see information spatially, on maps.

– Today, whether you are using Facebook, Booking, Wolt, or Uber, almost every digital platform has cartographic representations of data. This principle is increasingly entering various industries and sectors. In line with these trends, we are investing significant resources in the development of an advanced GIS platform that can integrate data from various sources and present it intuitively and visually. Our mission is to ensure that GIS is not reserved only for experts but becomes a tool available to everyone, from city administrations and companies to ordinary users who want to better understand the space around them. When you see the space better, you make better decisions. And we are here to enable that – explains the director of Promet i prostor.

Solutions for Different Markets

The company collaborates with over fifty cities, more than forty municipalities, and a dozen counties in Croatia, providing them with advanced IT solutions tailored to their specific needs. These solutions primarily encompass the digitization of administrative processes, but not necessarily, through GIS systems, transparency platforms, and various other tools for optimizing work and communication within local self-government. In addition to the domestic market, the IT solutions of this Zagreb company have a global reach, being present on almost all continents. Its systems are used in countries such as Guinea, Barbados, Mozambique, Lebanon, and many others.

– In international projects, we adapt our solutions to the specific requirements of different markets (language, regulations, customs…), ensuring a high level of flexibility and innovation. The digitization of public administration and the acceleration of client business are key segments of our offering, and we continuously work on developing new technologies that enable simpler and more efficient management of the public sector, regardless of the user’s location – explains Glasinović, whose company achieved significant revenue growth in 2024 compared to the previous year, with revenue exceeding two million euros. This growth, the director notes, is the result of successful operations, optimization of operational processes, and increased demand for their products and services. Total revenues in 2023, according to Fina’s data, amounted to one and a half million euros.
