DZS: In 2024, merchandise exports reached 23.8, while imports amounted to 41.8 billion euros

The value of Croatian merchandise exports in 2024 amounted to 23.9 billion euros, which is 4.6 percent higher than in 2023, while imports increased by 5.4 percent to 41.8 billion euros, according to the first data released by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS) on Friday.

The foreign trade deficit last year was 17.8 billion euros, compared to 16.6 billion euros the previous year. The coverage of imports by exports in 2024 decreased to 57.3 percent, down from 57.8 percent recorded in 2023.

According to the first data from the DZS, goods worth 15.6 billion euros were exported to EU member states in 2024, which is 0.4 percent more than in 2023. The value of imported goods from EU member states increased by seven percent to 32.6 billion euros.

Statistics for exports to non-EU countries recorded a growth of 13.4 percent, reaching 8.3 billion euros, alongside a 0.2 percent increase in merchandise imports to 9.2 billion euros.

The DZS also published other corrected data on merchandise trade for the first 11 months of 2024, showing that exports increased by 3.9 percent compared to the same period in 2023, reaching 21.9 billion euros, while imports rose by 5.4 percent to 38.6 billion euros.

According to revised data, the foreign trade deficit in the first 11 months of last year was 16.7 billion euros, and the coverage of imports by exports was 56.8 percent.
