The popular streaming platform Netflix has informed users in Croatia that package prices are rising. With the new prices, Netflix will start from February this year, and the subscription for the Premium package will amount to €12.99 (up from €9.99). The new price for the Basic package is €5.99 (up from €4.99), while for the Standard package, one needs to pay €9.99 (up from €7.99).
Of course, Croatia is not the only country affected by this new price increase, as Netflix has also raised subscription prices in the US. The Standard plan now costs $17.99 per month, an increase from the previous $15.49. The Premium plan, which includes 4K video, has increased from $22.99 to $24.99, and for the first time, the ad-supported version has also increased – from $6.99 to $7.99.
The price increase is not surprising, given that other streaming service providers have also raised their prices. For example, YouTube TV recently raised its prices by $10 per month, while Disney+ now charges nearly $16 for the basic plan, which is more than double the price at launch in late 2019. Additionally, it should be noted that Netflix last raised prices in the US in October 2023.
Most Cost-Effective Service
According to an analysis by John Hodulik, a media analyst at UBS, Netflix remains the most cost-effective service despite the price increase when the price is viewed through the lens of consumption per hour. Before the latest price increase, users who used the ad-free plan paid $0.33 per month per hour of viewing, according to Nielsen and Netflix data analyzed by UBS. This means that the average user watches between 47 and 70 hours of content on the platform each month. Based on this data, Netflix is cheaper per hour of viewing than its main streaming competitors. Users of the ad-supported plan, according to UBS, pay only $0.15 per hour of viewing, and data shows that they consume content in the same amount as those on the ad-free plan.
