From Monday, citizens can register for new ‘treasury bills’

A new round of registration for treasury bills for citizens begins on Monday, December 9, allowing investments in ‘treasury bills’ with a maturity of 91 days, with a targeted nominal amount of the total issuance being 400 million euros.

This time, there will be two registration channels – through 170 Fine branches and the digital platform e-treasury. The issuance date of the treasury bills is December 19, with a maturity date of March 20, 2025. The minimum investment amount per investor is 1,000 euros, and the annual yield for treasury bills with a three-month maturity is 3.10 percent, reported Davor Zoričić, State Secretary at the Ministry of Finance.

As is already known, ‘treasury bills’ are purchased at a discount, so the minimum investment amount for one treasury bill is 992.33 euros. Thus, citizens will receive one thousand euros upon maturity for one bill, meaning they can earn 7.67 euros on one treasury bill.

Registration for treasury bills for citizens until December 16, with reinvestment option this time

The registration deadline for treasury bills in the first round is December 16 until 11 a.m., while the next day, from 9 to 11 a.m., institutional investors will also be able to register for ‘treasury bills’ in the second round.

In just under two years, this will be the eighth issuance of state securities that citizens can purchase, of which the sixth is treasury bills. The previous issuance of three-month treasury bills was in September, with 12,900 citizens participating, who invested in treasury bills worth 397 million euros. These bills were issued on September 19 and mature on December 19, making them important for those who wish to reinvest their funds from that issuance into the current one.

Thus, the issuance date of the new issuance – December 19, is the same as the maturity date of the September issuance, but Zoričić emphasizes that reinvestment through the e-treasury platform or Fine counters must be carried out during the first round, from December 9 to 16.

– Citizens must not wait for the payment from the September treasury bills to arrive in their accounts, as it will then be too late – he warned.

Citizens invested nearly six billion euros

The registration in the first round starting on Monday is exclusively for individuals, adult Croatian citizens in Croatia and abroad, as well as foreign citizens residing in Croatia.

As before, one investor can register only one offer for the same issuance, either at a Fine branch or through online registration. For physical registration at Fine, citizens must bring a valid ID card or passport, and one of the details they must have ‘at hand’ is their bank account number. For registration via the digital platform, the key data are OIB and IBAN.

After receiving the document with the details, citizens must also make the payment, which they can also do at Fine, at any commercial bank, as well as through online banking.

Regarding cash payments at Fine, there is no fee for payment transactions for amounts up to ten thousand euros, while for payments above that amount, a flat fee of 12.61 euros is charged, regardless of the payment amount.

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković stated at today’s government session that around 200,000 citizens have invested nearly six billion euros in state bonds and treasury bills so far, and the state has paid them about 200 million euros in interest.

– This best speaks to the trust in the direction the state is taking – said Plenković.
