DPD, one of the leading parcel delivery service providers, has introduced the option of contactless card payment for cash on delivery. Until now, the cash on delivery service was conducted exclusively in cash, and DPD is the first delivery service in Croatia to elevate the service level by introducing card payments for cash on delivery using a software solution for card acceptance.

For the new contactless card transactions, DPD has partnered with Worldline, a global leader in payment solutions, and uses the Worldline Tap on Mobile application, which transforms existing Android devices of the delivery drivers into true POS devices. The seamless integration of the new software into the existing DPD system was enabled by Trilix, a partner for integrating the Worldline Tap on Mobile solution.

Digitalization of Payment

By digitalizing the payment process during package delivery, DPD has gained a competitive advantage. The new payment technology is excellent for service users as they can quickly and easily pay for their package with a contactless card, without worrying about having enough cash at home or the exact amount for payment.

– We decided to make a strong move in the market, so for the pickup of packages that are not paid online, in addition to the existing cash payment, we will also offer card payments directly with the delivery driver. We have been contemplating this step for a long time and sought the perfect solution for our needs. We opted for reliable and innovative partners who lead trends, as well as for a proven application that can be integrated into our existing device – said Snježana Stanić, Regional Marketing, Communications, and Out of Home Network Development Manager for Croatia and Slovenia.

The Worldline Tap on Mobile card payment application allows integration with other applications, so delivery drivers manage the entire cash on delivery payment process through the DPD application on their Android scanner. When delivering a package that the recipient wants to pay for with a card, the delivery driver selects the card payment option in the DPD application on their scanner, and the Worldline Tap on Mobile application screen with the required amount for payment opens automatically. The recipient pays contactlessly with their card, enters the card PIN if necessary, and receives a payment confirmation via email or SMS.

Seamless Integration

The Croatian company Trilix, the partner for integrating the Worldline Tap on Mobile solution into the existing DPD system, provided DPD with comprehensive support during all phases of integration, using its expertise from similar projects enabling payment at delivery.

– We are pleased to be a partner in a project that will significantly improve DPD’s delivery process, enhance service quality for package recipients, and ease the daily work of delivery drivers. During the implementation of the Worldline Tap on Mobile solution, we supported DPD in defining business requirements and processes, preparing the Worldline Tap on Mobile application for testing and production, automating card transaction reporting, and training employees for operational use of business applications – said Mladen Amidžić, Director of Trilix.

Trust in the Company and People

Card users in Croatia have an average of 2.7 cards. Card payments at physical points of sale in our market are constantly increasing, with more than 90% of those transactions being contactless. DPD has therefore introduced card payments to enable users to make simple and secure contactless payments upon delivery.

– By monitoring market trends, we noticed that cash on delivery is one of the most used payment methods for online product orders in Croatian e-commerce. Such orders account for about 50%, although cards are indeed well accepted in physical stores. With this move, DPD has enabled its users to make simple and completely secure contactless payments. I am very happy that our partners in this project recognized that Worldline Tap on Mobile is the ideal solution for DPD – added Marko Henrik Marinšek, Country Manager of Worldline for Croatia.
