Unlocking Potential in Hospitality: Knowledge that Drives

It is no secret that modern hospitality is a dynamic sector that is constantly evolving and advancing. But what enables and drives this forward movement among individual entrepreneurs? Behind all encouraging shifts are innovations and the ability to adapt to changing market trends. If we go further and ask what drives these innovations and adaptations, one answer stands out – KNOWLEDGE, and specifically, knowledge that prompts action. It is essential to know how to innovate, to interpret guest feedback and implement changes, to anticipate which way new trends are blowing, and to recognize mistakes and learn from them.

For entrepreneurs and business owners operating in the hospitality sphere, knowledge is never just paper, but a component that drives growth, success, and sustainability. Hospitality is competitive and diverse, and the potential for growth is enormous, depending on the continuous development of skills to keep pace with modern market demands. Continuous learning drives hospitality professionals to make informed decisions and seize opportunities for business expansion.

At the Culinary Institute Kul IN, we often collaborate with hospitality professionals and entrepreneurs, so to ensure that everything does not remain theoretical, we spoke with four completely different hospitality entrepreneurs who were connected to Kul IN through education and the pursuit of knowledge. Although some of them cater to gourmets, while others serve adventurers and sailors, and while some market their products in over 20 countries, and others produce small batches of products on demand, they all share the commonality of having found their place in the Croatian hospitality scene (and beyond). Here’s what Ekos Cakes from Varaždin, the Belac family from the island of Pag, Nautical Center from Komiža, and Marina Levak from Zagreb see as the recipe for their success and in which areas of their business the synergy of knowledge and activity has proven crucial.

We have highlighted six aspects of business in which our interlocutors emphasized knowledge as the foundation of their past work and potential for future development: a) diversification of services and products, b) innovations, c) different perspectives, d) management, e) marketing and networking, and f) education as a driver.
