Statkraft, a global Norwegian energy company that generates electricity from hydropower, wind energy, and solar energy, has opened a new office in Zagreb.
Regional Senior Vice President at Statkraft, Simen Bræin, emphasized on this occasion that the company also produces energy from gas and supplies district heating systems.
It is wholly owned by the Norwegian state and has an A credit rating from S&P.
He stated that it is a global company with more than 6,000 employees in over 20 countries, of which 11 are in Europe. Since 2021, it has been present in the Croatian market, with its headquarters in Zagreb.
It also operates in the USA, South America, and India.
– The opening of the new office is a significant step for Statkraft’s activities in Croatia, as the company is developing a number of solar and wind projects here – said Bræin.
He added that the main goal is to invest in renewable clean energy.
The Director of Statkraft for Croatia, Arnaud Bellanger, reiterated that Statkraft has been operating in Croatia for three years, noting that things started relatively slowly, but that has changed. He added that he sees great potential in Croatia for energy production from renewable sources.
Statkraft advocates for predictable legislation related to energy production and sales, in which, he noted, there is a positive shift.
Ballanger also reported that Statkraft has completed the acquisition of the Croatian portfolio of the French renewable energy company, Neoen. This includes all of Neoen’s early-stage development projects: wind farm projects, solar power plants, as well as battery energy storage systems (BESS).
Neoen has been present in Croatia since mid-2020.
In Statkraft’s strategy, the acceleration of solar power plant development, onshore and offshore wind farms, and energy storage in batteries is emphasized, he said.
