Croatia osiguranje opens multimedia pavilion ‘Croatia 2074 – a glimpse into the future’ on the occasion of its 140th anniversary

The pavilion ‘Croatia 2074 – a glimpse into the future’, created to mark the 140th anniversary of our largest and oldest insurance company – Croatia osiguranje, which operates within the Adris group, aims to present potential scenarios of Croatia’s future to help us understand that the future is not predetermined but is a consequence of our choices and (in)activities, and to encourage us to think more actively about what we can do to ensure that the optimistic, rather than pessimistic, version of Croatia’s future from the Pavilion is realized by 2074. This message was conveyed at the ceremonial opening of this unique multimedia Pavilion, which will be open to the public for the next month at Roosevelt Square in Zagreb, in front of the Mimara Museum.

Since Croatia marked its last major anniversary with a sort of time travel through 13 decades of Croatian history in the Grič tunnel in Zagreb, which was remembered as one of the most visited exhibitions in Zagreb, Croatia’s desire was to reflect on the Croatian and European future in these challenging times. Therefore, about thirty leading Croatian scientists, experts, and artists were gathered to create pessimistic, realistic, and optimistic scenarios in the fields of international relations, demographic future, ecosystems, economy, and culture and entertainment. Summaries of these scenarios were presented through attractive films, which will showcase Croatia’s future to the pavilion visitors.

– The past is the foundation of everything that Croatia is today – a market and digital leader and a pioneer in innovations, and the future is the space in which we progress and create new opportunities. Therefore, this exhibition does not speak about where we have been, but about where we are going. Together with leading Croatian scientists, experts, artists, and designers, we analyzed facts and trends and created various scenarios for Croatia’s future. In the Pavilion, you will see an advanced and innovative Croatia, but also a Croatia full of problems that we have not started to solve today. There is room for optimism and a bright future, but it all depends on how we will utilize the potentials we have and respond to the challenges ahead of us. This exhibition is an invitation to think together about how to create the Croatia we want to live in – said Davor Tomašković, CEO of Croatia osiguranje, at the ceremonial opening of the Pavilion.

The ceremonial opening was also attended by some of the authors of the future scenarios, including the prominent astronomer and futurist Korado Korlević.

– The trends are bad, but the opportunities are great. And the future is not something that happens to us, but something we create ourselves. Therefore, it is the responsibility of everyone, including the visitors of this exhibition, to be agents of change. To be, as Gandhi said, the change they want to see – stated Korlević.

The preparation of future scenarios involved: academic Igor Rudan, astronomer and futurist Korado Korlević, university professors Goran Bandov, Robert Mikac, Velimir Srića, Kristijan Kotarski, Daniela Angelina Jelinčić, Tihoni Brčić, Josip Mikulić, Feđa Vukić, Zrinko Čustonja, Božo Skoko, recognized scientists such as Iva Tolić from the Ruđer Bošković Institute, Damir Krešić, director of the Institute for Tourism, Mario Šiljeg, director of the Institute for Water, seismologist Tomislav Fiket… There is also the director of the Zagreb HNK Iva Hraste Sočo, celebrated Croatian composer and pianist Matej Meštrović, as well as the legend of Croatian skiing Ivica Kostelić and many other dignitaries. The production of this challenging project is credited to Millenium Promotion and Bruketa & Žinić & Grey.

The multimedia pavilion ‘Croatia 2074 – a glimpse into the future’ will be open from September 10 to October 10 from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM every day, at Roosevelt Square 5, in front of the Mimara Museum. Admission to the pavilion is free.
