Private business sector achieved 7.9 billion euros in profit last year, 20 percent more than the previous year

The net profit of Croatian entrepreneurs in 2023 amounted to 8.8 billion euros, and this result was most influenced by entrepreneurs from the private sector, who achieved 7.9 billion euros in net profit last year, which is 19.9 percent more than the previous year, according to an analysis by the Financial Agency.

Entrepreneurs from the private sector, numbering 153,809, employed 890,190 workers last year and achieved total revenues of 138.1 billion euros, 10.4 billion euros in period profit, 2.5 billion euros in period loss, and 7.9 billion euros in net profit.

Private sector entrepreneurs thus increased the number of employees by 5.6 percent compared to 2022, total revenues by 10 percent, period profit by 17.2 percent, period loss by 9.3 percent, and net profit by 19.9 percent.

– The private sector played the most significant role in the business of entrepreneurs in 2023 as it accounted for 98.5 percent of the number of entrepreneurs, 86.5 percent of the number of employees, 85.7 percent of total revenues, 90 percent of period profit, 90.2 percent of period loss, 67.4 percent of gross investments only in new fixed assets, and achieved 90 percent of the total net profit of Croatian entrepreneurs – the analysis states.

Employees in private sector companies, in 2023, as in previous years, were paid lower average monthly net salaries than the economy average, 1,002 euros in 2023, which is 2.6 percent less than the average of all entrepreneurs in Croatia (1,028 euros).

Net profit of state-owned entrepreneurs 291.7 million euros; those in mixed ownership 585.5 million euros

State-owned entrepreneurs, numbering 1,192, employed 93,912 workers and achieved total revenues of 13.5 billion euros, 385.6 million euros in period profit, 93.8 million euros in period loss, and 291.7 million euros in net profit, compared to a net loss in 2022 of 545.5 million euros.

State-owned entrepreneurs increased the number of employees by 0.2 percent compared to 2022, total revenues by 18 percent, period profit by 39.1 percent, and reduced period loss by 88.6 percent.

Employees in the state sector were paid an average monthly net salary of 1,143 euros in 2023, which is 11.2 percent more than the average of all entrepreneurs at the national level (1,028 euros).

The analysis also shows that mixed ownership entrepreneurs, numbering 295, had 43,693 employees last year, achieving total revenues of 9.2 billion euros, period profit of 752.9 million euros, period loss of 167.4 million euros, and net profit of 585.5 million euros.

Compared to 2022, the number of employees decreased by 0.6 percent, total revenues by 4.9 percent, total expenses by 4 percent, while period profit increased by 9.4 percent, and period loss by 49.3 percent, resulting in a higher net profit of 1.7 percent.
