Google plans to take the lead in the AI market with a new smartphone

The American technology company Google will use the announced presentation of its smartphone to outpace competitors and attempt to take the lead in the artificial intelligence and smartphone market, assessed smartphone expert and chief analyst at CCS Insight Ben Wood.

It is expected that this American company will present its Pixel 9 smartphone line tonight, before Apple unveils the next iPhone, which it traditionally does in September. Wood believes that Google is trying to outpace its competitors with new AI tools.

– It is interesting that Google is holding this event in August instead of the usual time in October. We believe this is an attempt to preempt Apple’s iPhone presentation in September, especially in terms of AI. Apple will likely focus on why the iPhone is the ‘best phone for AI’ and it would not be surprising if we notice some overlaps in the potential use of the new Pixel phone and the new iPhone – said Wood, adding that an earlier announcement could allow Google to be the first to unveil new AI features and take the lead in that area.

AI tools have become a key battleground for innovation in the technology sector. Google previously introduced its generative AI chatbot Gemini, and the Pixel 9 series will be the first smartphones the company has made based on that tool.

– We expect Google to continue developing its ‘camera capabilities’ as the camera now plays a central role in the decision to purchase a new smartphone – said Wood.

Google’s presentation comes after Samsung included its own package of AI-powered tools in its foldable phone offerings. Galaxy AI was introduced on new Samsung phones in January with tools that can translate and transcribe conversations for users and assist in photo editing and other tasks.

In June, Apple introduced Apple Intelligence, its plans to introduce more AI features on the iPhone later this year, including a deal with ChatGPT OpenAI to integrate an AI chatbot into Apple’s software.
