More than a million people tuned in to listen to former President Donald Trump talk with Elon Musk during a Spaces interview on Twitter on Monday, and many from the crypto community were expecting new words directed at the industry.

While the pair discussed a range of worn-out narratives, including securing the southern U.S. border, the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, immigration, and Vice President Kamala Harris, the former president did not utter a single word about the asset class.

Indeed, more than four million dollars was spent on Trump’s mention of various words on Polymarket, with the largest bet being on ‘crypto’ at over $800,000. Cryptocurrency fans were left disappointed, although other key phrases were activated during the conversation: ‘MAGA’, ‘illegal immigrants’, and ‘tampon’, the latter appearing when Trump mentioned Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and the law on women’s hygiene products last year.

The conversation also did not mention ‘Tesla’ or ‘bitcoin’ from Trump.

Despite some within the industry believing that cryptocurrencies are being recognized this year as a major political issue following Trump’s support three months ago, Trump is hoping for another attempt at the White House in November.

The former president appealed to crypto owners in his campaign, accepting crypto donations in May after signaling that he was pro-crypto at a Mar-a-Lago event for owners of his NFT collection based on polygon. In June, Trump specifically supported bitcoin miners.

While crypto listeners were disappointed, many more listeners ironically complained about technical issues that prevented them from accessing the interview recorded on Spaces, the live recording feature on the platform.

The long-awaited conversation between X owner Musk and Trump began with Spaces being interrupted by a DDoS attack, Musk said on Monday night.

Musk reported the interruption on Twitter at 8:18 PM ET, stating that the system had been tested with eight million non-competitive listeners earlier that day.

Musk suggested that the interview would take place with a reduced number of listeners, but after Spaces resumed, the number of listeners exceeded one million accounts.
