Prime Minister Andrej Plenković stated on Thursday at a Government session that at the end of August, when the Government resumes its sessions after the summer break, preparations for the rebalancing of the state budget.
– Consultations are ongoing, these are standard activities, taking into account both the developmental and redistributive functions of the budget to ensure investments and protection for all vulnerable groups in society. At that time, a proposal for new tax changes will also be put out for public consultation – he announced at the beginning of the Government session.
The National Housing Policy Plan will also enter consultation, which will be discussed once again at the cabinet and Government level to address issues that are important for every Croatian citizen, primarily the price of real estate and rental prices, which have significantly increased in recent years.
– We are determined to find thoughtful policies and solutions that need to help citizens – he said.
In Croatia, as he noted, currently 25 percent of apartments are vacant, 40 percent of the housing stock is not used for housing, which amounts to about one million apartments that are currently not utilized for residential purposes.
These are data that serve as a starting point for addressing this problem, Plenković said, adding that solutions must also be found to assist young families in resolving housing issues and thus lead policies that will not contribute to rising real estate and rental prices but rather the opposite. The logic is to find a solution for affordable housing in Croatia, he said.
