The latest German research shows that the number of electric cars worldwide continues to grow rapidly.
The Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research (ZSW) announced on Sunday that by the end of 2023, there were about 42 million electric motor vehicles in the world, which is approximately 50% more than a year earlier.
This number refers exclusively to electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids, and electric vehicles with devices that extend their range.
According to ZSW, there were 23.4 million of this type of car in China, which accounts for more than half of the global total.
In second place, although far behind China, are the United States with 4.8 million vehicles.
Germany ranks third with 2.3 million, ahead of France (1.6 million) and the United Kingdom (1.5 million).
The largest manufacturers of pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids in 2023 were the Chinese brand BYD with just over 3 million new registrations, Tesla with 1.8 million, and VW with one million.
