Tea Višek: Fraktal Beauty is a combination of personal experience and love for the work I do

The female energy is unstoppable, always finding its way and means of expression. This is the message with which the Croatian cosmetic brand Fraktal Beauty was presented last year at an exclusive event in Zagreb, announcing a new face of cosmetics in Croatia, backed by Tea Višek, a long-time expert in cosmetology.

Fraktal Beauty is primarily designed as a brand aimed at women in perimenopause and menopause, which remains a taboo topic worldwide, but also as a brand that brings high-quality and multifunctional skincare products that help defend against oxidative stress, modern lifestyle, blue light, as well as dehydration and dryness.

How did you come up with the idea to launch Fraktal?

The idea of launching my own line of cosmetic products is something I have been contemplating for a long time, working in the cosmetic industry on the raw materials and product development side. Thanks to my personal experience of entering menopause early, at just 45 years old, I decided to focus on a line of products dedicated to perimenopause and menopause. So, it is a combination of my love for the work I do and my own experience.

Fraktal boasts its natural products; what raw materials and ingredients do you use in your products and how do you source them? What makes them special for your product line?

The raw materials used to produce Fraktal products come from the highest quality global raw material manufacturers, which we also represent in the markets of Southeast Europe, and with these raw materials, we develop products for other cosmetic manufacturers in the region. The uniqueness of Fraktal products lies not only in the selection of active substances that address skin issues in perimenopause and menopause (damage from UV rays, blue light, sensitivity, the impact of pollution on the skin, and dehydration due to heat waves) but also in the fact that Fraktal formulas are tested for efficacy in independent laboratories, thereby confirming their effectiveness.

How long does it take to develop and produce a new product? And how many people are involved in that process at Fraktal?

The development of a new product can take from six months to several years, depending primarily on the type of product, how complex it is to develop, what innovations are used, and what results are desired from that product. If the products are tested for efficacy, that additionally requires a minimum of several months, and before the first production, everything needs to be coordinated, from design and procurement of packaging, raw materials, to optimizing the production process, analytics, and regulatory requirements for the finished product, which also takes some time.

Regarding the development of a new product, I start from the idea and develop preliminary formulations and select appropriate ingredients. After that, the development continues with colleagues in the development department of our contract manufacturer, where everything is finalized and prepared for the first production.

Do you use any new technologies in the production of your products, and how do you test them?

Of course, we use new technologies primarily in raw materials and active substances. This is where innovation in cosmetics begins. Collaboration with top global raw material manufacturers is very important because they are the ones who bring innovations to the market every day.

Raw material manufacturers test all products themselves, and that is the way they market them. When we have insight into the efficacy tests of raw material manufacturers, we look at how those raw materials could function in the products we create, and finally, we test their efficacy in independent laboratories.

We also use innovations in testing – for example, when we tested the efficacy of Fraktal Winnow, Lucent, and Untainted serums on the effects of UV rays, blue light, and air pollution on the skin, the tests we conducted were among the first in the world to demonstrate such effects of products on the skin. This was truly an innovation in the true sense of the word, and there were only a few laboratories in the world that could conduct such tests.

Your products are truly aimed at a niche audience; what are the advantages of this, and what are the disadvantages?

The advantage is that the products address specific skin problems at that age: changes in the skin due to natural processes in the body, as well as changes caused by external factors such as UV radiation, blue light, pollution, and so on. Therefore, the approach is very specific.

On the other hand, like any niche, it has its limits. However, there cannot only be products for broad application; there must also be specialized products, because unfortunately, it is not possible to solve some specific skin problems otherwise.

How do you promote your products, and what feedback do you receive from customers?

Our marketing team works on promotions through various channels – online and offline; there is indeed a wide range of activities that can be done today, and all these possibilities are very exciting because they provide the opportunity for internationalization. Customer feedback is very positive, and every such piece of information personally delights me, as that is why we created Fraktal products.

Additionally, feedback from professionals such as dermatologists or cosmetologists is also positive, and the award from Estetica.hr that we recently received as the best new Croatian brand speaks to that, which particularly pleases us.

What is next for Fraktal? Can we expect some new products? What are the plans going forward?

Fraktal is constantly developing new products, and we have several interesting innovations coming. The idea is certainly to continue with innovative and effective products. Fraktal Beauty was created with the idea of being sold worldwide. We are very committed to this, and the response has been really good.

Are you conducting any activities to educate women, primarily entrepreneurs, about menopause? What challenges do they face?

We often participate in various events with partners dedicated to educating about perimenopause and menopause. I believe this should not be a taboo; it is simply a part of life, which is honestly a very beautiful part of life for me. I think it should be understood that one can be happy, healthy, beautiful, and well-groomed in their best years, without regretting youth.
