Vellayan Subbiah from India is the new EY World Entrepreneur of the Year

Indian entrepreneur Vellayan Subbiah has won the prestigious title of EY World Entrepreneur of the Year. At the global finals of the EY Entrepreneur of the Year program, organized by the consulting and auditing firm EY, Vellayan Subbiah stood out among 51 entrepreneurs from 47 countries. Croatian entrepreneurship was represented in Monaco by Ivo Usmiani, one of the founders, the first director, and the chairman of the Board of Directors of JGL, the largest Croatian pharmaceutical company in domestic ownership, established in 1991 as the first private pharmaceutical joint-stock company in the country.

The company Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Co. Ltd., behind which stands the new EY World Entrepreneur of the Year, offers a wide range of financial services, including loans and investment services, and is today the second largest non-banking financial company in the country. Subbiah believes that individuals and small businesses can achieve their dreams and potential with the right financial support, and thanks to his approach, many low- and middle-income families have managed to buy homes. Additionally, as Executive Vice President of Tube Investments of India, Subbiah turned around the CG Power business in just one year, transforming it from a heavily indebted company into a successful company that produces electric vehicles, tests medical consumables, and enables affordable public transport through bicycle retail. For this reason, Tube Investments of India is now one of the leading engineering giants in India, with a stock growth of 600 percent in four years.

In the competition of the best global entrepreneurs was also Croatian entrepreneur Ivo Usmiani, who in March of this year received the title of the ninth Croatian EY Entrepreneur of the Year. Usmiani is one of the pioneers of Croatian entrepreneurship, and in the 33 years since the founding of JGL, he has achieved numerous business successes. The JGL Group today operates in 60 markets worldwide, with 87 percent of its revenue coming from exports.

– Being here in Monaco, at the EY World Entrepreneur of the Year and among the best in the world, is already an incredible honor and recognition for me. As leaders in our industries, we have a responsibility to our companies, but also to society as a whole. Together we can create a better world, and I believe that the entrepreneurs gathered here are a true example of how this can be achieved – said Usmiani after the announcement of the new EY World Entrepreneur of the Year, and the competition for the EY Entrepreneur of the Year program is again active at the national and global level.
