We are starting a new season of our campaign ‘Counting Trucks’! While some count tourists, we count trucks loaded with goods for export, which are significantly more important for the national economy than the export of services, a fact that is largely overlooked in public discourse.

The positive trend of newly contracted jobs for the Končar Group continues to be recorded in the business segment of transmission and distribution of electricity, resulting in even greater demand for transformers. Just this year, by mid-May, more than 860 trucks have left two of Končar’s transformer factories. This involves the delivery of distribution, medium voltage, special, and measuring transformers. Transformers from Končar have been delivered to customers around the world, primarily to the markets of Germany, Sweden, Austria, the Netherlands, Spain, Finland, Hungary, Lithuania, the USA, and Australia.

It is worth noting that Končar achieved the highest revenues, profits, and profit margins ever in 2023. Newly contracted jobs exceeded 1.3 billion euros, of which 76.6 percent was contracted for export. Changes and activities initiated over the past four years, with an emphasis on adapting to market trends, have contributed to these extraordinary results, the company states.

Additionally, the green transition in Europe has gained full momentum in recent years, which Končar seems to have recognized in time and capitalized on, resulting in rapid adjustments of development, production, and business processes to the new energy era, leading to a record amount of new orders, particularly from demanding markets in Germany, Sweden, Austria, Norway, and the Netherlands.

In the first quarter, out of a total of 387.2 million euros in newly contracted jobs, as much as 83.1 percent or 321.9 million euros relates to export markets. The share of EU countries in the total contracted jobs in export markets is nearly 84 percent. The order book, backlog, at the end of the first quarter of this year amounts to 1.6 billion euros, which is 177.2 million euros more than at the end of 2023.

– Considering that Končar has about ten factories at several locations in Zagreb, and here we have data only for two of them, the number of trucks leaving all factories is much higher. It is particularly encouraging that newly contracted jobs continue to grow significantly more than revenues, and in open obligations, the backlog contracts for the coming years, 2025 and beyond, have reached nearly 800 million euros. Therefore, it is expected that even more trucks will leave Končar’s factories in the coming years, they say from Končar for Lider.
