This year’s edition of the Croatian Economic Olympiad attracted a large number of participants, making the final of the competition, which will be held in a month, particularly interesting. At this event, winners will be announced who will represent Croatia in Hong Kong, alongside an engaging program.
On Wednesday, May 29, 2024, the third edition of the Croatian Economic Olympiad was held, a national competition that brings together talented high school students from across Croatia. This event, organized by the Center for Youth Development (CERM), aims to promote financial literacy among youth and to encourage economic education.
The Croatian Economic Olympiad represents a significant platform for high school students, encouraging them to engage in extracurricular activities and apply the knowledge gained in school to concrete examples and tasks.

In today’s dynamic and increasingly complex economic environment, financial literacy is becoming one of the key aspects of education. Individuals with a higher level of financial literacy manage their money better, which includes budgeting, expense control, saving, and investing. All of this results in fewer financial problems and long-term financial stability.
This year, more students than in the previous two editions combined
This year’s competition involved 208 students from across Croatia, divided into 44 teams. In this first part of the competition, participants tested their financial management skills through the online game Financial Literacy Game, designed to simulate “adult” life. Students chose from different characters and faced life challenges, applying their economic knowledge and strategic thinking.

This year, the largest number of high schools with an economic focus participated, such as the Isidor Kršnjavy High School Našice, the Economic School Vukovar, the Lovro Monti High School Knin, the Economic and Business School Bjelovar, the Dalj High School, the Economic and Trade School Čakovec, and many others. A total of 18 schools show a growing interest and importance of this competition in promoting financial literacy among youth.
The winning school will represent Croatia in Hong Kong
The competition is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills and connect with peers from other parts of the country. This year’s edition of the competition is special due to the large number of participants, as well as the highest interest from partners so far. Therefore, the final of the competition, which will take place in about a month, will be particularly interesting, where winners of this year’s Croatian Economic Olympiad will be announced alongside an engaging program. Additionally, a so-called boot camp will be held to prepare the winning team for participation in the international competition.

The winning team will have the opportunity to represent Croatia at the world finals, the International Economics Olympiad (IEO), which will take place from July 22 to July 31, 2024, in Hong Kong. The IEO promotes education in economics and financial literacy among high school students worldwide and facilitates the exchange of information on curricula and practices. Supported by Eric Maskin, a Nobel Prize winner in economics, the Olympiad creates opportunities to discover, challenge, unite, and reward young people interested in economics and develops leadership among young talented economists.
