During the spectacular Sports Emmy Awards ceremony held on Tuesday in New York, prominent producer and creative director of CBS Sports Pete Radovich won four prestigious awards in the categories of Outstanding Live Special, Outstanding Edited Special, Outstanding Documentary Series – Serialized, and Outstanding Open/Tease.
In the highly competitive category of Outstanding Documentary Series, globally popular series such as Netflix’s Drive to Survive, Hard Knocks, and Quarterbacks featuring Patrick Mahomes were contenders, and the Emmy went to Pete Radovich for the documentary Football Must Go On, which had its world premiere last year at the Sunset Sports Media Festival (SSMF) in Zadar. In his acceptance speech, Radovich highlighted how this documentary came to be and thanked his compatriot Dario Srna, president of Shakhtar Donetsk, who readily agreed to collaborate and allowed filming of his team to share their story with the world amid the war in Ukraine.
– This Emmy is particularly significant for me because it is the first time in my career that I have been recognized in America for something that has a connection to Croatia. The world premiere at the Sunset Sports Media Festival in Zadar, my mother’s hometown, as well as the connection with Dario Srna in this story, made this moment truly special and unforgettable for me. I plan to bring this Emmy to Croatia and keep it at my mother’s house in Zadar – said Pete Radovich, a multiple award-winning producer and creative director of CBS Sports and ambassador of the Sunset Sports Media Festival.
Pete Radovich won three Emmy awards for the production of Super Bowl LVIII held on February 11, which became the most-watched television program in American history with 124 million viewers. As the creative director and vice president of production, Radovich was responsible for the opening show and the game broadcast. One of the three awards was for the opening show My Way, for which he produced and directed a remix of Frank Sinatra’s song, with permission from the Sinatra family. This success is further confirmed by the fact that Radovich has won the Emmy for Outstanding Open in six of the last seven Super Bowls he has produced. Another Emmy was won as a coordinating producer for the NFL documentary You Are Looking Live! in the category of Outstanding Edited Special, which showcased the history and essence of the NFL.
