Amazon and Microsoft invest billions in AI under the ‘Choose France’ campaign

Amazon will invest more than €1.2 billion in France as part of the Choose France campaign and create over 3,000 permanent jobs, while Microsoft plans to invest four billion euros, the companies announced on Monday.

The investment by Amazon Web Services will enhance the cloud business infrastructure in the Paris area.

The increased popularity of artificial intelligence (GenAI) is driving demand for cloud services, and France has become a hub for artificial intelligence with promising startups like Mistral and Poolside. Companies Meta and Google also already have artificial intelligence research centers in the country.

Amazon has invested more than €20 billion in its French operations since 2010 and employs over 22,000 permanent staff in its cloud and online businesses.

– These jobs are in addition to the 2,000 new positions we announced this year – said Amazon France manager Frederic Duval.

Part of the investment will be used to expand the logistics network.

Microsoft will invest four billion euros, said its vice president and president Brad Smith to the French newspaper Le Figaro.

Smith stated that a large portion of this investment money will focus on the artificial intelligence sector, and Microsoft’s data center will be located in the city of Mulhouse.
