The number of hacking attacks increases every year. Phishing-scams are multiplying at a dizzying rate, but cybersecurity solutions are also strengthening. Why has the number of hacking attacks significantly increased in Croatia and worldwide?

According to a recent report on the state of information and cybersecurity, in 2023 there were twenty percent more cases of unauthorized data breaches compared to the previous year, and the number of hacking victims doubled. Annual data from the Croatian Security and Intelligence Agency (SOA) also confirms the rise of state-sponsored cyber attacks. Online fraud and phishing-attacks, or hacking attacks for identity theft, were 34 percent higher in 2022 than in 2021. This indicates an increase in the sophistication and availability of hacking tools, enabling even less experienced individuals to carry out attacks. This year, the trend of financial motivation for attackers continues.
