In the period from January to December 2023, an average of 1 million and 603 thousand people were employed in Croatia, while 104 thousand were unemployed, with the employment rate for individuals aged 15 to 64 being 65.7 percent, and the survey unemployment rate at 6.2 percent, according to DZS data.
Data from the labor force survey show that in 2023, there were 3.266 million working-age residents (aged over 15) in Croatia, of which 1.603 million were employed, 104 thousand unemployed, and 1.559 million inactive.
Of the total number of employed, 851 thousand were men, and 752 thousand were women. Among those aged 15 to 64, 832 thousand men were employed, and among those aged 65 and older, there were 19 thousand. At the same time, in the period from January to December 2023, an average of 12 thousand women aged 65 and older were employed, while 740 thousand were aged 15 to 64.
When considering the total number of employed, 1.386 million were employed by other employers, 203 thousand were self-employed, and 14 thousand worked as assisting members. For instance, there were an average of 142 thousand self-employed men last year, and 61 thousand women.
According to sectors, last year the highest number of employed was in the manufacturing industry, averaging 270 thousand. This was followed by wholesale and retail trade with 227 thousand, education with 140 thousand, construction with 120 thousand, and health and social care activities with 117 thousand, etc. The highest number of men worked in the manufacturing industry, 173 thousand, while women predominantly worked in trade, 136 thousand.
