Worldcoin reaches 10 million users, 70 million transactions, and at least 13 goats purchased

Worldcoin’s World app has reached 10 million registered users, with an average of 2 million daily users and over 5 million monthly.

These milestones come less than a year after the service launched in June 2023, and according to Tiago Sada, product lead at Worldcoin’s parent company, Tools for Humanity, the project now has more daily users than the total monthly user count in January 2024.

Universal Basic Income

Worldcoin is a crypto project aimed at creating a universal basic income. Users register their identity in the company’s app by having their irises scanned in person by machines the company calls ‘Orbs’.

Remco Bloemen, head of blockchain at the Worldcoin Foundation, stated in a statement that the World App was not meant to be the only solution on the Worldcoin protocol.

– We hope this will encourage other collaborators to develop additional wallets for the protocol, as different users have different needs and preferences for their applications. In other words, the Worldcoin community has expressed interest in alternatives to the World App, so a broader range of people can be involved in Worldcoin – said Bloemen.

Goat Purchases

One of the more notable use cases of the World App recently was a viral story about a user in Kenya who expressed gratitude for being able to purchase a goat with funds received from a Worldcoin airdrop.

The crypto community further supported the story by sending an undisclosed amount of cryptocurrency that the user reportedly used to buy even more goats, bringing their total to 13.

The first goat was even named Sam. When asked on X why the owner named it that, he replied that it was named after Sam Altman, co-founder of Worldcoin.

Altman is also a co-founder and current CEO of the artificial intelligence startup OpenAI. The company’s product ChatGPT is currently considered state-of-the-art for generative AI technology.
