The Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure has made a decision to co-finance the development of the broadband network, according to which the French infrastructure fund Meridiam, or its Croatian company Optix Infrastructure, is allocated over 95 million euros from the NPOO fund, we learn from well-informed sources.

Optix received 17 out of the requested 18 scopes, while Hrvatski Telekom and A1 each shared 10 million euros in non-repayable funds across two scopes. These are funds from the NPOO fund within the component of Digital Transformation of Society and Public Administration.

As we recently wrote, announcing the arrival of the French fund in Croatia, this leads to the creation of a new wholesale telecom operator in the Croatian market, and informed sources claim that this further strengthens Croatian-French ties, especially in key infrastructure matters.

Considering the possible scopes on which the infrastructure will be built and taking into account previous prices and completed works, it can be concluded that the investment could reach over 200 million euros. The entry of Meridiam represents the creation of a new wholesale infrastructure operator that, it seems, will not have its own retail operations.
Otherwise, Meridiam is a French infrastructure fund with global operations specializing in the development, financing, and long-term management of sustainable public infrastructure in three key sectors: sustainable mobility, critical public services, and innovative low-carbon solutions.
