The Special Hospital Radiochirurgia Zagreb and the ‘rechts der Isar’ hospital, the university hospital of the Technical University of Munich, have signed a cooperation agreement under which they will share knowledge and experience on the latest medical solutions in the fields of surgical, radiosurgical, and hybrid treatment methods for diseases.

According to the statement, the agreement was signed by Prof. Dr. Helmut Friess, director of the Surgical Clinic and Polyclinic at the ‘rechts der Isar’ hospital, Technical University of Munich, and Prof. Dr. Sc. Dragan Schwarz, director of Radiochirurgia Zagreb. The solemn signing of the Agreement was attended by Mirjana Jaman, a member of the advisory team of the Foundation for Surgery at the Technical University of Munich, which was founded in 2007 by Prof. Dr. Friess and his wife.

The cooperation primarily relates to the use of advanced technologies and top-notch surgery in the fight against tumors, and the signatories of the agreement are convinced that it will improve the overall level of medical service in Croatia and Germany.

According to new estimates from the International Agency for Research on Cancer, the number of new cancer cases in Europe will increase by 22.5 percent in the next two decades. That is why it is crucial to share knowledge about combating this insidious disease, not only within national frameworks. Radiochirurgia Zagreb, just like the ‘rechts der Isar’ hospital, invests significant resources in modernizing and improving diagnostics and treatment of tumors, especially in the technical aspect, which is becoming an increasingly important factor in medicine, emphasized Schwarz, adding that the premise of cooperation is working on developing new approaches to diagnostics and treatment, comparing results and patient experiences, as well as exchanging knowledge among the best doctors in the world.

Since its establishment in 1868, the Technical University of Munich has been distinguished by excellence in research and education, which is repeatedly confirmed by high rankings in national and international lists. Throughout its history, 13 Nobel Prizes have been awarded to professors and graduates of the University, including two Nobel Prizes for Medicine, and its researchers are among the pioneers of biotechnology and neutron physics.
