Georgieva the Only Candidate for the Top Position at the IMF

The current Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva is the only candidate for this position with a five-year term, announced the board of directors.

The seventy-year-old Bulgarian economist has held the top position at the IMF since 2019 and has already stated that she is ready for another term if nominated.

Georgieva’s current term expires at the end of the year.

The top position at the IMF traditionally belongs to Europeans, while that at the World Bank belongs to Americans.

Georgieva is the second woman to head the IMF, following her predecessor Christine Lagarde, who has since taken over as President of the European Central Bank (ECB).

The IMF and the World Bank were established at the end of World War II, reminds the news agency dpa.
