As of today, Zrinka Ujević has assumed the position of Head of the European Commission Representation in Croatia. In this role, it was announced, she acts as the official representative of the European Commission in Croatia under the political authority of the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
Zrinka Ujević has been a Croatian diplomat for 30 years, and since 2014, she has held the title of ambassador. Throughout her diplomatic career, she has systematically dealt with European affairs, gaining in-depth insight into the policies of the European Union and the workings of European institutions. Since 2016, she has been the Director of the Directorate for Europe at the Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, while from 2000 to 2014, she played an important role in the Republic of Croatia’s mission to the EU. She was responsible for political issues and previously served as the head of the Chief Negotiator’s Office.
She was also the Deputy Head of the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Croatia to the EU, while simultaneously serving as Croatia’s representative on the Political and Security Committee. She also worked as the Deputy Head of the United Nations Department at the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In that position, she dealt with numerous international issues, including security and peacekeeping.
