There is no person who is always in the mood for social contact, whether it is about hanging out with colleagues in the office, a party, or expressing their views, opinions, and even trivial, insignificant small talk in front of a smaller or larger group of people. Many of us (admit it!) have come up with excuses to avoid social situations and instead retreat into our safe zones, into our peace.
However, there are those who avoid contact with other people (or desperately want to) because exposure causes them anxiety, nervousness, restlessness, and raises (unjustified) fears. As the experts say, if you have been avoiding social gatherings for more than six months, do not want to be the center of someone’s attention and the subject of evaluation, the chances are that you suffer from social anxiety (social phobia).
Isolation during the pandemic and working from home have fueled social phobia, so more and more people feel that they no longer ‘know’ how to behave among others, fearing that they will appear stupid, incompetent, or awkward in conversation.
Fortunately, there are ways to alleviate, and even eliminate, social anxiety. In a new micro-lecture, find out how to overcome it.
