Women Who Connect Your World and Do Not Acknowledge Stereotypes

As a company that is proud of its 1598 female colleagues who Hrvatski Telekom make better and more successful through their work in all sectors, departments, and parts of the organization, in all business processes and at all positions, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, we wanted to find out how artificial intelligence views women in the business and technology world.

We entered a ‘prompt’ into an AI tool to create a visual representation of 10 job titles based on gender-neutral names.

We entered:

1. Shop manager (person who runs the store)
2. Engineer (engineer)
3. Telecom field technician (person in telecom responsible for technical repairs in the field)
4. Network access expert (expert in access networks)
5. Data scientist (data scientist)
6. Call center agent (person responsible for responding to customer inquiries)
7. Door to door salesperson (person responsible for field sales)
8. Cyber security expert (expert in cyber security)
9. Developer
10. Programmer

The result was that for each of the 10 job titles, a male character was created, which unfortunately indicates the still-present stereotypes that ICT is a male industry, which is factually incorrect. We can confirm this firsthand as capable and skilled women hold each of these positions and many others at Hrvatski Telekom.

There is no place for gender stereotypes in the 21st century; the best and most successful companies are those with equal opportunities and possibilities for all.

At Hrvatski Telekom, women make up 42 percent of the total number of employees in the company and have held about 40 percent of managerial positions for years. A woman is at the head of the Supervisory Board, two members of the Management Board are responsible for business with private and business customers, and from July 1, Hrvatski Telekom will also have a CEO, while at this moment, more than 20 women hold directorial positions in technology, ICT, controlling, sales, customer support, channel management, internal audit, sustainability management, branding, human resources, regulation, legal…
