Industrial production in Croatia fell by more than 1 percent year-on-year in January, marking the second consecutive month of decline, thus continuing the negative trend from last year.
The Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS) announced on Thursday that industrial production in January remained unchanged compared to the previous month, while it fell by 1.3 percent compared to January of last year.
This marks the second consecutive month of annual production decline, given that it slipped by 0.9 percent in December of last year.
This is also a continuation of the negative trend, as production weakened by 0.1 percent throughout the entire last year.
In January, production fell year-on-year in four out of five sectors, with the largest decline of 14.8 percent in the production of durable goods for general consumption.
Following with a decline of 8.7 percent is the production of capital goods, while energy production fell by 7.8 percent, and intermediate goods by 1.3 percent.
On the other hand, the production of non-durable goods for general consumption increased by 7.9 percent year-on-year.
Decline in the number of employees in the industry
The total number of employees in the industry in January of this year compared to the previous month decreased by 0.4 percent, and compared to January 2023 by 2.4 percent, according to data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS).
According to the National Classification of Activities (NKD), the number of employees in the manufacturing industry fell by 0.3 percent on a monthly basis, in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning by 0.9 percent, while in mining and quarrying it increased by 1.1 percent. Within the manufacturing industry, the largest decline in the number of employees was recorded in the production of computers and electronic and optical products, by 8.7 percent, in the production of refined petroleum products by 3.9 percent, in clothing production by 2.4 percent, and in metal production by 2.3 percent.
