Hrvoje Vojković arrested, former head of Croatia osiguranje and former Minister of Economy

At the request of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO), entrepreneur, former CEO of Croatia osiguranje, and former Minister of Economy Hrvoje Vojković was arrested in northern Istria, RTL Danas learns exclusively.

– It is suspected that the two suspects committed subsidy fraud and forgery of documents in relation to three tenders in the agricultural sector announced by the Agency for Payments in Agriculture, Fisheries, and Rural Development. These three tenders were co-financed with funds from the European Union.

The EPPO will decide on further action in the case after questioning the suspects, and will inform the public in a timely manner. Until then, no further details will be released. The EPPO is an independent office of the European Union’s public prosecutor. It is responsible for investigating, prosecuting, and bringing charges for crimes against the financial interests of the Union – states the EPPO’s announcement.

As unofficially reported, Vojković was arrested for subsidy fraud and forgery of a business document, and it is suspected that he received subsidies for planting tulips that he never planted, Hina reports.

As previously mentioned, the former head of Croatia osiguranje was arrested in northern Istria and will be escorted to Zagreb during the day to the headquarters of the European prosecutor where he will give his statement.

Recall that Vojković began his career in 1990 with business partner Dejan Košutić, the grandson of the first Croatian president Franjo Tuđman. The company Rubikon, of which he was a founder, dealt with marketing and financial engineering.

Vojković was a member of HSLS from 1989 to 2010. He was also a member of the branch’s executive board for several terms, president of the Podsljeme branch, vice president of the City Council of Zagreb, a member of the Small Council of HSLS, and in February 2006, he was elected vice president of HSLS at the unification assembly.

On behalf of HSLS, he served as Minister of Economy. After he attacked Darinko Kosor, stating that the head of HSLS views the world ‘exclusively materially’, he left the party and was removed from the head of Croatia osiguranje.

Vojković was previously linked to scandals related to the operations of Croatia osiguranje and illegal construction of a weekend house within the Žumberak Nature Park, RTL Danas reminds.

Vojković’s ex-wife also accused him of psychological, physical, and economic violence, which he vehemently denied at the time.
