According to data from the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (DZS), in January this year, there were 1,636,325 employed persons in Croatia, which is 17,453 persons or 1.1 percent less than in the previous month, i.e., December last year. On an annual basis, the total number of employed has increased by 3.1 percent.
In legal entities, there were 1,419,668 persons employed, which is 15,748 persons or 1.1 percent less than a month earlier. Compared to January last year, the number of employed in legal entities increased by three percent.
According to data that DZS obtains from the records of the Croatian Pension Insurance Institute, at the end of January, there were 198,338 employed in crafts and liberal professions, which is 1,654 persons or 0.8 percent less than in the previous month. On an annual basis, the number of employed in crafts and liberal professions was higher by 4.5 percent.
The number of employed insured farmers, of which there were 18,319 at the end of January this year, fell on a monthly basis by 0.3 percent and on an annual basis by 1.2 percent.
More detailed statistics on the number of employed in legal entities show that the only significant decline in the number of employed recorded on a monthly basis was in the accommodation and food service activities, i.e., hospitality and tourism, by 10.8 percent, to 81,897 persons.
On the other hand, the highest monthly increase in the number of employed was recorded in professional, scientific, and technical activities, by 0.9 percent, to 70,989.
Of the total of 19 areas of activity for which DZS publishes data, 16 employed more workers at the end of January this year than at the end of the same month last year, with the highest percentage increase recorded in hospitality and tourism, by 9.8 percent.
