The American digital giant Microsoft has announced that it will invest nearly two billion euros in data centers for artificial intelligence applications in Spain, along with planned infrastructure in Germany and the UK.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Microsoft CEO Brad Smith announced on Monday that 1.95 billion euros will be invested over the next two years.
The funds will be used to expand infrastructure for artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing, Smith wrote on the online platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
Last week, the head of Microsoft announced that nearly 3.3 billion euros will be invested over the next two years to expand the capacity of data centers for AI applications and cloud computing in Germany.
The largest single investment in Microsoft’s 40-year history also includes a training program for artificial intelligence that is expected to attract up to 1.2 million Germans.
In November, Microsoft promised to invest 2.5 billion pounds (3.15 billion dollars) by 2026 for the development of artificial intelligence in the UK. In October, Smith also announced an investment of five billion Australian dollars (3.26 billion US dollars) in the artificial intelligence sector in Australia.
